Discover new and hidden gems in the South Pacific, home to some of the least-travelled islands and atolls in the world, rich with varied culture and incredible biodiversity above and below the water. Tucked along the northwestern corner of Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last wild frontiers, from rugged sandstone peaks and gushing waterfalls, to desert expanses, sunken mangrove forests, and everything in between. In either destination, visit incredible local communities that are open to sharing their traditions and homes amid life in the most remote regions on Earth.
A DAY EXPLORING HUNTER RIVER
7:00 a.m. — We started our day with an enjoyable and scrumptious breakfast on the veranda overlooking the glistening sea and the sound of waves softly lapping against the ship in one of the most remote places in the world.
12:00 p.m. — What a thrill! We spent the morning on a Zodiacs® tour lead by our Expedition team, exploring the mangrove forests of the Hunter River. Kingfishers darted amongst the roots of these fascinating plants.
4:00 p.m. — So many birds, I couldn’t keep count. A white-bellied sea eagle was one of our favourites — I can’t believe it came so close to our Zodiac! We spent a long while cruising past herds of crocodiles, sunning on the shores. They seemed so lazy!
6:00 p.m. — Back on our ship, we were ready for a glass of wine and comparing our stories about our day exploring the wilds of the Kimberley.

Expedition Voyage from Reykjavik, Iceland to St Johns, Newfoundland from 17 to 30 September 2025 on the Seabourn Venture with a guest capacity of 264 and hosted by Jann Porter & Riaan Manser
Visit Baffin Island (Nunavut) and Nunatsiavut (Labrador), as well as Newfoundland. Islands of Lady Franklin, Monumental, Lower Savage, and Resolution to look for wildlife from the Zodiacs. Thriving Inuit culture (Pangnirtung and Nain), history of remote Moravian missionaries and missions (Nain and Hebron), a 19th century whaling station (Kekerten Island), 19th and early 20th century Labrador fishing villages that are still thriving today (Battle Harbour), the remains of a rural medical mission (Indian Harbour), and the first Viking settlement in North America (L’Anse aux Meadows).
There is also the overlap of polar and black bear populations which is quite unique, seals, and maybe even some of the last birds migrating south from the Arctic summer. One of the other major highlights is the Torngat Mountains National Park, an incredibly remote section of the very top of Labrador and spectacular, with a beautiful fjord system and great wildlife opportunities. We have two days here for Zodiac cruises, nature hikes and walks, kayaking, sub dives, etc.
Robin West, Seabourn’s Vice President and General Manager of Expeditions, suggests this trip as it’s a highlight of the 2025 season offering a great mix of culture, history and wildlife with a good chance of seeing black and polar bears, as well as Northern Lights.
HOSTED BY JANN PORTER AND RIAAN MANSER
Jann has cruised/ travelled extensively and founded Cruise Options in January 1999.
Riaan Manser is one of the great explorers of our day and the thrill-seeking pioneer continues to find new and exciting ways of traversing our planet. Both have a passion for travel and exploration and hope you can join them on this beautiful and interesting voyage of discovery
Please find the itinerary as well as what to expect on a Seabourn Expedition. On an expedition cruise, you have a fully immersive experience as activities / tours are included plus you learn so much from the team accompanying you.
VOYAGE HIGHLIGHTS
Torngat Mountains National Park with human history, stunning landscapes & good wildlife possibilities. Black and polar bears in overlapping territory in Labrador. Really good human history, in very remote and challenging locations (Inuit, Viking, Moravian missions, whaling stations, fishing communities). Each of the days will be beautiful and the Torngat Mountains National Park should be stunning; Pangnirtung will also be a highlight and L’Anse aux Meadows is always a win. Autumn comes early to the Arctic so the tundra should have yellows and reds plus it’s also worth staying on in Canada for the fall colours.

The Svalbard Experience
6:00 a.m. — The sun has already been up for hours, casting a warm glow over the massive icebergs floating like frozen sculptures around our ship. We absorbed the breathtaking landscape of the tundra from the comfort of our veranda, even spotting a pair of musk oxen perched high on the slopes.
11:00 a.m. — The pack ice near Svalbard is prime polar bear territory and we watched in awe as they surveyed the area for prey, swimming gracefully from floe to floe.
4:00 p.m. — As we cruised through waterways fringed with glaciers, the deck was the place to take it in. We braved the brisk air with cocktail in hand to enjoy the spectacular scenery from the whirlpool, and it seemed like everywhere we looked there were icebergs tumbling into the water below!
“Sailed with this amazing crew in June to Greenland! Loved every second! So much fun, yet so knowledgeable and highly professional!” — Jane K., Facebook

The Galápagos Islands are a fascinating combination of science and wonder where you can witness the forces that are said to have created our planet. The Ecuadorian archipelago is made up of 19 islands and dozens of inlets. This enchanting ecosystem is home to unique wildlife that is found nowhere else on earth. Discover the origin of Charles Darwin’s scientific breakthrough on these “Enchanted Isles”, where the laws of evolution can be clearly observed at this spectacular year-round destination.
The hot and rainy season - January through June
This is the sunniest time of year when the warmer water temperatures attract snorkellers and swimmers. It rains most days but only for short periods. This is also the breeding season for land birds, so it’s likely that you’ll witness some unusual mating rituals. You may also find Galápagos green turtles nesting on the beach.
The cool and dry season – July through December
The Humboldt Current brings colder water and weather to the islands. It also creates a sea rich in nutrients and plankton, which attracts birds and fish, such as the albatross. This is the mating season for Blue-footed Boobies and Short-eared Owls with their dramatic courtships; Genovesa Island is the perfect place to observe their rituals. It’s not until December that the hatching season begins for giant tortoises.
