Jann’s done 3 wonderful cruises in the last 5 months and it’s been such a treat for her to be on a ship and exploring again plus a huge relief for all of us to see that everything is mostly normal again after all the Covid chaos.
The Norwegian Fjords on Silversea’s beautiful new Silver Moon with 596 guests
I spent 10 days cruising the Norwegian Fjords on the Silver Moon in July. This was my 2nd cruise in this area and I can highly recommend it; a great mix of stunning scenery with towering fjords and endless waterfalls, as well as lovely little towns.
The Silver Moon is a beautiful all-suite all-balcony ship with well designed spacious suites. I loved the choices of lounges, bars and restaurants and they are all well used with a great vibe and live music. Lovely snacks and canapes are served in all lounges in the evenings. The Observation Lounge is very popular for enjoying the beautiful scenery and the Arts Café is a great new addition for coffees, drinks, snacks and light meals.
It’s an added bonus to have a tour included in each port and there’s a great selection plus the Shore Concierge staff on board are very knowledgeable and helpful.
East Coast of Greenland & Iceland Circumnavigation on Seabourn’s new ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ship, Seabourn Venture with 264 guests
16 clients joined me on this 14-day cruise and we all agreed that it far surpassed our expectations and we can highly recommend exploring these areas. On an expedition cruise, daily activities / tours are included so you have an immersive experience and are accompanied by the expedition team.
Iceland is beautiful and green with so many waterfalls, hot water springs and very friendly locals. There was a choice of tours in all the ports with lovely scenic drives and one of the highlights was visiting the largest puffin breeding colony on Heimaey Island.
The east coast of Greenland is very remote and stunning with huge ice bergs; we were always surrounded by the most beautiful scenery and a highlight was seeing a polar bear. We had lovely walks, zodiac cruises and kayak trips.
It’s always exciting to be on a new ship and the Seabourn Venture is beautiful with so many choices onboard. For pre-dinner drinks and live music, we’d either go to The Club for sushi or to the Constellation Lounge for canapes and both had great views of the lovely scenery. The Square is always a favourite for coffees, smoothies and snacks.
Komodo, Papua & Great Barrier Reef Luxury Expedition Cruise on Le Laperouse with 148 guests
Le Laperouse, a beautiful French motor yacht, was chartered by Abercrombie & Kent and I was joined by 7 clients who have cruised with me before. We all had the most wonderful time enjoying beautiful scenery and learning about different cultures. Most places are completely untouched by tourism with very friendly locals who were as fascinated by us as we were by them.
The diving and snorkelling were superb with clear visibility and great water temperatures so most would snorkel for 1 to 2 hours. Each site was quite different and had an abundance of different corals, fish and other sea creatures and we learnt so much from the Expedition Team with their indepth knowledge of all aspects of these areas.
Le Laperouse is a perfect ship for exploring islands and the pool was well used plus most of us enjoyed the al fresco dining outside. The service was very friendly and personalised.
Abercrombie & Kent is in a league of their own with all that they offer including a phenomenal Expedition Team and we highly recommend travelling with them. This cruise is offered from 20 October to 5 November 2023 so let us know if you’d like more information.
CRUISE WITH JANN IN 2023
For over 10 years, I’ve cruised annually with 15 to 25 of our clients joining me and this works really well. Everyone is independent so we don’t operate as a group as such but there is great camaraderie and a number of people have got to know each other well over the years. I have three fabulous trips planned for 2023 and I do hope that you can join me:

The Northwest Passage is an incredible voyage of discovery and I loved the diversity of it. Some highlights were incredible sightings of 32 polar bears, Northern Lights for a week, plus cruising through the Bering Strait. There were 9 of us from SA, all very well travelled / cruised and we all rated this as a trip of a lifetime! Jann Porter, 2015 Northwest Passage with Abercrombie & Kent
Dear Traveler,
I am excited to share with you some highlights from the most recent departure of A&K’s epic Luxury Expedition Cruise The Northwest Passage: From Greenland to the Bering Sea. It is an adventure inspired by the great polar explorers of the past as well as the region’s rich history, and one that had been at the top of my wish list my whole life.
It was an unforgettable voyage at the end of world, where even today a comparative few have ventured. We hope you will join us on our 2023 Northwest Passage cruise to discover it all for yourself.

Le Commandant Charcot is paving the way as the first deep polar exploration cruise ship that’s equipped with a hybrid liquefied natural gas propulsion system (currently the cleanest energy available). With the use of the latest green technologies this minimises the impact of your polar odyssey on the planet and makes a positive contribution to the people and lands that you visit.
The ship has many facilities on board for scientific research as it’s equipped with its own laboratories and a host of scientific researchers in disciplines such as glaciology, oceanography, marine biology, climatology, and the social sciences.
During the cruise, academic scientists will provide invaluable insight into understanding and protecting the polar regions; expertise that is shared onboard by featuring observations from the decks, fascinating presentations and sessions that involve rewarding in-depth discussions about research and protecting the poles.
