On 4 November 1922, after five years of searching, archaeologist Howard Carter’s Egyptian expedition uncovered a stairway in the sand that would lead them to the most extraordinary find of the era. The discovery of the treasure-packed tomb of Tutankhamun was the capstone event in a worldwide, decades-long fascination with Ancient Egypt, directly influencing the design movement known as Art Deco as well as lending invaluable insights into Egyptian burial practices and beliefs.
