Antarctica and South Georgia is a trip of a lifetime and we highly recommend it. It’s so unbelievably beautiful that it’s impossible to capture in photos and then the sights and sounds of all the penguins, seals, whales and birds is a wonderful experience. Most cruise companies that go to Antarctica offer either the Classic Peninsula trip or the Antarctica Peninsula combined with South Georgia Island.
The trip to South Georgia is longer with more days at sea and it offers vast colonies of King Penguins, Fur and Elephant seals, as well as Shackleton’s grave. The climate and environment is not as extreme as Antarctica so it offers more opportunities to walk around freely.
We highly recommend including South Georgia as it’s as much of a highlight as Antarctica is.

December / January is the peak time in Antarctica as this is the time when the eggs hatch and penguin chicks sit on their parents’ feet
(or nearby) to feed. The chances of finding good weather are statistically better than earlier in the season and the days are at their longest, with a dusk-like light throughout the night; all this offers great photo opportunities.
